Film Focus: This Bible Project video provides an overview of the Book of Job by dividing the book into its four sections and detailing the underlying questions and assumptions that are at the heart of this book.

Text Focus: Pages 401-403

Discussion Questions:

  1. What is the main question which is being wrestled with in the Book of Job? Is the question ever really answered? What might this be trying to teach us?
  2. Have you ever faced intense suffering like Job? Did it cause you to question God? How did you grow and learn from that experience? Discuss.
  3. What are the three questions that Job debates with his friends? How does the Book of Job answer those questions?
  4. What assumptions are underlying Job and his friends’ arguments? Do we have some of those same assumptions today? Are they helpful or harmful for understanding why suffering occurs?
  5. How does God respond to Job in the Book of Job? Does this help to provide an answer to the question of suffering? Why or why not?
