Film Focus: Br. Peter Junipero Hannah, OP discusses the role of Sacred Scripture in the life of the Church and in the study of theology. Br. Hannah reflects on the interplay between the human and Divine authorship and enumerates several important principles for reading Sacred Scripture.

Text Focus: Pages 10-19, 28-29

Discussion Questions:

  1. Dei Verbum calls Sacred Scripture “the soul of Sacred Theology.” What does this mean?
  2. In studying Scripture, one must be attentive to both the human author’s intention and God’s intention. How might these two things be the same? How might they be different?
  3. What does it mean when the Catholic Church states that the Scriptures are inspired?
  4. What are two to three things that one must examine when looking at the text from a human point of view?
  5. What are the three principles that one must examine when looking at the text from a viewpoint of its Divine authorship?
