Chapter 7: The Meaning of the Parable of the Good Samaritan

The Meaning of the Parable of the Good Samaritan

Film Focus: Jared Dees breaks down the Parable of the Good Samaritan to make it accessible and actionable in the lives of young people today.

Text Focus: Pages 343-345

Discussion Questions:

  1. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, who are the first two people to see the injured man? Why do they pass him by? How might they have justified their own actions?
  2. Why would it be shocking for a Jewish person in the first century to hear a Samaritan given as a good example? Give an example of a person or group of persons who we might use if we were telling this story today.
  3. When have you (or someone you know) let something get in the way of helping a person truly in need?
  4. When have you (or someone you know) been the “Good Samaritan” to a person in need.
