The Temptation of Jesus

Film Focus: In this video, Fr. Dave Pivonka, discusses the temptations of Jesus from the first chapter of Mark. He does an excellent job of showing how the temptations that Jesus faced are similar to those we face today. His answer to this problem is to invite the Holy Spirit to join us in our temptations so that we can overcome and see victory.

Discussion Questions:

1. What does the desert represent in this story?
2. If you were to rewrite this story in modern terms, what might you substitute for the desert?
3. What places have you been tempted where you are weak? Have you reacted in a way which makes you feel defeated or victorious?
4. How have you allowed the Holy Spirit to meet you in the desert? If you have not yet had this experience, how can you plan to change the script so that you can do this next time you face a scene of temptation?
